Created to celebrate Wemyss Malts' 15th anniversary as an independent bottler, Velvet Fig 25 Year Old is an ultra-aged blended malt crafted from 20 select ex-sherry casks. Non-chill filtered and bottled at a gentle 42.3% ABV, it delivers a deeply layered, unctuous tapestry of dried figs, dark chocolate, and antique wood polishes.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Rich, aromatic, and deeply autumnal. It opens with blackcurrant preserves, dried figs, and maple toffee, underpinned by aromatic wood spices and antique cigar box leaf.

Palate: Unctuous, silky, and living up to its name with a velvety, coating mouthfeel. Notes of maraschino cherries, dates, poached plums, and dried apricot collide with rich milk chocolate and subtle leathery meatiness.

Finish: Long and remarkably fresh for a 25-year-old sherry profile, leaving lingering hints of warm wood spices, dark cocoa, kirsch, and polished oak.

Why this bottle is special: 

This bottle married well-aged Speyside and Highland whiskies with over-30-year-old unpeated Bunnahabhain stock in refill sherry hogsheads. Wemyss achieved a perfectly harmonious liquid profile. The result is a rare, velvety blended malt where the Islay and mainland malt characters seamlessly intertwine with mature European oak wood—offering an extraordinary, soft-spoken dram for serious sherry and vintage whisky enthusiasts.
