Compass Box: Collection New Vibrations

Created for La Maison du Whisky and released in July 2023, this pair of whiskies was designed to bring the power of blending directly to the enthusiast. Inspired by the "do it yourself" ethos of the punk movement, these expressions are delicious individually but were specifically engineered to be blended together.

A-SIDE: The Blended Grain

The Concept: A Blended Grain Scotch Whisky that combines old grains with younger spirit.

The Blend: It features 67.7% single grain from The Cameronbridge Distillery (finished in Madeira barriques) and 32.3% of a blended grain parcel aged in second-fill bourbon barrels.

Profile: Characterized by vanilla, coconut cream, chocolate mousse, and bountiful notes of dates and chocolate fudge cake.

Technical: Bottled at 48% ABV; a limited edition of 930 bottles.

Blending Role: Use this to bring "glossy sweetness and soft warmth" to your composition.

B-SIDE: The Blended Malt

The Concept: A Blended Malt Scotch Whisky focusing on complex smokiness and a wide array of American oak influences.

The Blend: A complex recipe including malts from Caol Ila (10.4%), Pulteney (20.3%), Balmenach (22.6%), Strathmill (7.6%), "Glen Shiel" (20.9%), and various blended malt parcels.

Profile: Offers a savory profile with honey, fruit, and toffee clustering around smoky, coastal, and "tarry peat" flavors.

Technical: Bottled at 49% ABV; a limited edition of 1,530 bottles.

Blending Role: Use this to provide a "dry smokiness and honeyed fruitiness" to your composition.

Tasting Notes

A-SIDE: Blended Grain Scotch Whisky (48% ABV)

• Nose: Fresh and inviting with coconut cream, oily vanilla, and the scent of shortbread.
• Palate: A deep, decadent profile where vanilla notes evolve into chocolate mousse. You’ll find bountiful notes of dates and rich chocolate fudge cake
• Finish: A "glossy sweetness" that leaves a lingering sense of soft warmth.

B-SIDE: Blended Malt Scotch Whisky (49% ABV)

• Nose: A fusion of windswept smoke, earthy peat, and brilliant fruit. There are distinct aromas of smoked almond and barbecued apples.
• Palate: Savory and multi-layered, featuring honey, fruit, and toffee notes. The texture is anchored by tarry peat, richly meaty flavors, and a surprising hint of sweet white chocolate.
• Finish: A dry smokiness balanced by a final, honeyed fruitiness.
