This is a true "clash of the titans" in the world of independent blending. Compass Box Ethereal was created specifically for the 65th anniversary of La Maison du Whisky (LMdW).

The name "Ethereal" is a direct nod to the legendary Eleuthera—one of Compass Box’s first-ever releases—and it follows a similar "East-West" Islay logic. It marries the smoky, medicinal power of Laphroaig with the waxy, fruity elegance of Clynelish, creating a bridge between the rugged coast and the refined Highlands.

Tasting Notes

Nose: A beautiful tension between "The Coast" and "The Orchard." It opens with medicinal peat smoke, iodine, and damp wool (Laphroaig). This is immediately softened by a layer of scented candle wax, honeyed malt, and ripe pears(Clynelish). There is a subtle, creamy sweetness in the background—think of vanilla bean and coconut macaroons.

Palate: The texture is remarkable—silky and mouth-coating thanks to the Clynelish and the grain. It leads with salted caramel and charred lemon peel, followed by a wave of earthy peat and medicinal herbs. Mid-palate, it reveals a complex fruitiness: dried apricots and grilled pineapple dusted with white pepper.

Finish: Long, elegant, and evolving. The smoke turns "ashy" and dry, while the finish lingers with beeswax, sea salt, and a final, sweet kiss of vanilla oak. It is incredibly clean for such a smoky whisky.
