Tasting Notes
1. Infrequent Flyers 27 Year Old Speyside (2019 Release)
Distillery: Undisclosed (Glenfiddich/Wardhead) | Cask: #4408044 | ABV: 46.2%
This 27-year-old "Infrequent Flyer" is a study in traditional Speyside elegance. Distilled in 1992, it represents a "time capsule" of spirit from one of the world’s most iconic distilleries. At this age, the spirit has achieved a perfect equilibrium with the oak. It is unhurried, sophisticated, and carries that rare "old-style" waxiness that enthusiasts hunt for in independent bottlings of this pedigree.
-
Nose: Refined and waxy. Notes of beeswax, polished antique wood, and dried heather. There is a delicate fruitiness of green apples and acacia honey.
-
Palate: Silky and mouth-coating. Poached pears and vanilla custard meet a soft mineral touch and a hint of white pepper.
-
Finish: Long and graceful. It leaves a lingering trail of parchment, lemon zest, and soft oak tannins.
Why this bottle is special: It is a "pure" expression of a Speyside giant. Because it matured in a single hogshead without a heavy finish, you are tasting the naked quality of 1992 distillate. It’s a quiet, contemplative dram for those who appreciate the subtle complexities of long-term aging.
2. Infrequent Flyers 29 Year Old Speyside (2021 Release)
Distillery: Undisclosed (Glenfiddich/Wardhead) | Cask: #4825 | ABV: 46.9%
Cask Treatment: Matured and finished in a Rye Barrel
This is a truly rare beast. After nearly three decades of traditional maturation, Alistair Walker moved this 1992 Speyside malt into a Rye Whiskey Barrel for a final flourish. The result is a spectacular "collision" of flavors: the deep, waxy, honeyed fruit of an old Speyside legend meets the punchy, herbal, and peppery spice of American Rye wood. It is one of the most unique high-age-statement bottlings in the "Infrequent Flyers" catalog.
Tasting Notes:
-
Nose: An intriguing mix of old and new. Butterscotch and apricot jam are joined by rye bread, fresh mint, and toasted caraway seeds.
-
Palate: Full-bodied and explosive. The tropical fruit (dried pineapple) of the aged malt is electrified by the rye’s clove, ginger, and black pepper spice. It is oily, sweet, and spicy all at once.
-
Finish: Enormous and complex. The sweetness of golden syrup fades into a dry, herbal finish of dill and toasted oak.
Why this bottle is special: Rye cask finishes are almost never seen on whiskies of this age. Taking a 29-year-old spirit—which is already a "unicorn"—and giving it a Rye finish is a high-stakes gamble that paid off. It creates a "Zingy" old malt that bridges the gap between classic Scotland and bold Americana.
