Cadenhead's Whisky Sample 1991 Girvan 33 year old Original Collection 2024 Release
Selected and bottled by Wm Cadenhead for their 2024 Original Collection, this 33-year-old single grain whisky from the Girvan Distillery is a showcase of well-aged Lowland complexity. Presented at a natural strength of 46% ABV without chill-filtration or added caramel, this long-matured grain malt bypasses aggressive oak dryness, delivering an effortlessly smooth profile filled with rich crème brûlée, toasted coconut, and old-style butterscotch.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Decadent, warm, and inviting. Opens with opulent aromas of vanilla bean pod, toasted coconut flakes, and warm butterscotch. With time in the glass, softer notes of ripe banana bread, glazed Danish pastry, citrus zest, and antique cedarwood develop gracefully.
Palate: Silky, mouth-coating, and rich. Velvety layers of crème brûlée, salted caramel, and candied pecan fill the mouth, perfectly balanced by golden syrup, toasted oak spice, and a touch of dried mango.
Finish: Long, luxurious, and pleasantly warming. Soft notes of sweet vanilla cream, drying coconut husk, gentle nutmeg, and aged leather linger on the palate.
Why this bottle is special:
Girvan spirit aged for over three decades loses all youthfulness, allowing the corn and malted barley distillate to interact naturally with American oak to yield intense vanilla and pastry esters. Combined with Cadenhead's strict ethos of zero filtration or tinting, this 2024 release is a textbook example of high-age grain whisky at its absolute peak.
