The Bunnahabhain 2004 18 Year Old Mòine Pedro Ximenez Finish is a "heavyweight" release from the 2022 limited lineup. This is the dark, brooding sibling to the Amontillado finish. It takes the earthy, heavy peat of the "Mòine" spirit and smothers it in the thick, syrupy sweetness of Pedro Ximénez (PX) sherry casks.

At 18 years old, the initial "fire" of the peat has mellowed into a rich, smoldering embers character that integrates beautifully with the dark fruit.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Immensely deep and dark. It leads with medicinal peat smoke and damp earth, quickly enveloped by the scent of sticky toffee pudding, black treacle, and sun-dried raisins. There is a sophisticated "old library" aroma—leather-bound books and pipe tobacco—balanced by a bright hint of red cherry.

Palate: The texture is thick, syrupy, and mouth-coating. The smoke is integrated and "chewy," tasting of barbecued meats glazed in maple syrup. Mid-palate, the PX influence takes over with dark chocolate ganache, espresso, and stewed prunes. A spicy backbone of cinnamon and cloves provides a perfect counterpoint to the heavy sweetness.

Finish: Immense and lingering. The smoke returns for a final bow, tasting of sweet wood ash and charred oak, followed by a long, drying trail of dark cocoa and sea salt. It is a warming, comforting finish that lasts for several minutes.
