Bruichladdich Tasting Set 18 Year Old 2024 Release (30ml x 2)
- Bruichladdich Re/Define 18 Year Old 2024 Release (30ml, 50%)
- Port Charlotte 18 Year Old 2024 Release (30ml, 54.3%)
n 2024, Bruichladdich reached a major milestone with the release of two permanent 18-year-old expressions. These bottles represent the first time since the distillery’s resurrection in 2001 that they have had enough mature, age-stated stock to create a consistent 18-year-old duo.
While both are born from the same Islay soil, they offer two completely different visions of maturity: the elegant, unpeated Bruichladdich 18 and the heavy, industrial smoke of Port Charlotte 18.
Tasting Notes
Bruichladdich Re/Define 18 Year Old (2024 release, 50%)
The Concept: A celebration of Islay-grown barley and long-term maturation in varied oak. This is the "refined" side of the distillery—complex, floral, and deeply textural.
Cask Profile: Primarily matured in ex-bourbon casks, with a smaller portion in Sauternes and Port casks.
ABV: 50%
Nose: Honeyed cereal and vibrant citrus. Notes of tropical fruits (mango and pineapple) meet toasted oak and a hint of floral gorse.
Palate: Incredibly viscous. Honey, butterscotch, and crème brûlée are balanced by the salty tang of the Atlantic breeze.
Finish: Long and refined with apricot jam and a delicate, lingering mineral quality.
Port Charlotte 18 Year Old (2024 Release)
The Concept: The oldest age-stated Port Charlotte ever released as a permanent expression. It proves that heavy peat (40 PPM) doesn't just fade with age—it evolves into something much more sophisticated.
Cask Profile: 100% Islay matured. A mix of 74% refill sherry casks and 26% refill French oak wine casks.
ABV: 54%
Nose: The smoke is integrated and "mellow." Dried fruits, figs, and tobacco leaf mingle with a scent of smoldering driftwood and leather.
Palate: Deeply savory. Dark chocolate and roasted coffee meet the classic PC "medicinal" smoke, which has turned into a sweet, earthy BBQ flavor.
Finish: Enormous. Smoked sea salt, orange zest, and a drying oak tannins that last for minutes.
Why it's special
-
The "Coming of Age" Moment: For over two decades, Bruichladdich has been the "innovator" with young, experimental spirit. These 2024 releases prove that their spirit has the stamina to age into world-class, luxury malts.
-
Total Transparency: In true Bruichladdich fashion, every bottle comes with a code that allows you to see the exact provenance of the barley and the specific cask breakdown.
-
Refinement vs. Power: These two bottles offer a masterclass in Islay's range. The Bruichladdich 18 is all about the "Barley Forward" philosophy, while the Port Charlotte 18 is the ultimate expression of "Elegant Smoke."
