Tasting Notes
Bruichladdich Rock'NDaal 02.1 (The Unpeated)
The Concept: A celebration of the "Laddie" style, matured in a complex marriage of European and American oak. It is designed to be a vibrant, dancefloor-ready dram.
Cask Profile: A blend of Bourbon casks and Sauternes wine casks.
ABV: 50%
-
Nose: Lush and floral. Notes of honeysuckle and creamy vanilla are met by the syrupy sweetness of the Sauternes—think candied lemon peel and ripe peaches.
-
Palate: Silky and viscous. The Sauternes influence brings honeyed apricots and crème brûlée, balanced by the signature Bruichladdich maritime saltiness.
-
Finish: Long and clean with toasted oak and citrus zest.
Port Charlotte Rock'NDaal 02.2 (The Peated)
The Concept: The "heavy metal" counterpart. This is a robust, heavily peated (40 PPM) Islay single malt that leans into the darker, more savory side of maturation.
Cask Profile: Matured in a mix of Sherry casks and Chenin Blanc wine casks.
ABV: 50%
-
Nose: Industrial and sweet. Tarry peat smoke and smoldering driftwood are layered over dark chocolate and sun-dried grapes.
-
Palate: A massive explosion of flavor. Smoked sea salt and black pepper collide with the rich, fruity influence of the Chenin Blanc—notes of honeyed walnuts and leather.
-
Finish: Enormous and "sooty." The smoke lingers like a campfire on the beach, with a final hint of dried spices and plum.
Why these bottles are special
-
The Cask "Remix": Bruichladdich is famous for its use of French wine casks. The use of Sauternes for the unpeated 02.1 and Chenin Blanc for the peated 02.2 shows the distillery’s genius at using white wine acidity to cut through heavy malt and smoke.
-
The Modern Heritage: These releases represent the "new" Bruichladdich era—vibrant, colorful, and transparent. They are 100% Islay matured and bottled without chill-filtration, keeping the raw energy of the distillery intact.
-
The Perfect Contrast: Tasting these side-by-side is the ultimate study in Islay character. You have the "sunshine in a glass" of the 02.1 vs. the "stormy coastal night" of the 02.2.
