The Bruichladdich Rock'NDaal series was launched to celebrate the return of the distillery’s legendary music and whisky festival during Fèis Ìle 2022. After a hiatus of physical festivities, the "01" series served as the inaugural release of this now-annual tradition.

True to the Bruichladdich philosophy, the 01.1 and 01.2 duo provides a stark, fascinating contrast between the elegant, unpeated "Laddie" spirit and the heavy, medicinal smoke of Port Charlotte.

Tasting Notes

Bruichladdich Rock'NDaal 01.1 (The Unpeated)

The Concept: A complex, multi-vintage vatting designed to showcase the "vibrant" side of the distillery. It highlights how unpeated Islay barley can reach incredible heights of fruitiness when paired with world-class wine casks.

Cask Profile: A marriage of ex-Bourbon casks and various European wine casks (including Sauternes and Austrian sweet wine).

ABV: 50%

The Vibe: Bright, melodic, and sophisticated. It is the "sunshine" of the festival.

• Nose: An explosion of tropical fruits—dried mango, honeyed melon, and apricot. There is a distinct floral note of gorse blossom and sweet vanilla fudge.

• Palate: Rich and syrupy. The wine influence brings poached pears and crème brûlée, balanced by a zesty lemon curd and a signature Atlantic salt spray.

• Finish: Long and clean with toasted oak and a lingering honeyed malt sweetness.

Port Charlotte Rock'NDaal 01.2 (The Peated)

The Concept: The "heavy metal" counterpart. This is a robust, heavily peated (40 PPM) Islay single malt that focuses on the interplay between industrial smoke and the spice of European oak.

Cask Profile: Matured in a combination of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks.

ABV: 50%

The Vibe: Intense, rhythmic, and deeply coastal. It captures the smoky atmosphere of a bonfire on the shores of Loch Indaal.

• Nose: Classic Port Charlotte "funk." Smoldering driftwood, earthy peat, and medicinal bandages meet dark chocolate and roasted coffee beans.

• Palate: A powerful, oily mouthfeel. Salted licorice and black pepper are wrapped in a thick layer of barbecue smoke. Mid-palate, it reveals a hidden sweetness of dried dates and raisins from the sherry wood.

• Finish: Enormous and sooty. A savory combination of smoked meats and sea salt that stays with you for minutes.

Why these bottles are special

• The 2022 Landmark: As the "01" editions, these are the foundation of the Rock'NDaal series. They represent the first time Bruichladdich explicitly themed their festival releases around the "Rock" (music) and "Daal" (Loch Indaal) connection.

• Experimental Cask Blending: Bruichladdich is famous for its "Cask Management" mastery. The use of rare Austrian wine casks in the 01.1 and the heavy sherry integration in the 01.2 shows a distillery at the peak of its creative powers.
