Tasting Notes

Nose: Remarkably perfumed and aromatic. It opens with high "top notes" of fragrant lavender, vetiver, and incense candles. Beneath the floral layer, there is a savory depth of antique leather, wax, and a rich, toasted almond nuttiness. A drop of water brings out damp peat moss and a cooling hint of menthol.

Palate: The mouthfeel is viscous and oily, delivering a "spectacle" of contrasting flavors. It starts with salty, savory smoke—creosote and tar—before swinging into the sweetness of the port influence. You’ll find mint chocolate, smoked pecans, and salted caramel toffee, with a background of warm pear crumble and fudge.

Finish: Long and lingering. It leaves a persistent trail of salted caramel and leather, ending with a distinctive cooling menthol sensation that acts as a refreshing finale to the heavy smoke.

Fun Fact

The 2024 release cycle was a departure from tradition. Usually, Ardbeg releases a higher-ABV "Committee Release" followed by a 46% general release. For Spectacular, the distillery opted for a single global release at 46%, making the "Committee" access more about early purchasing rights rather than a different liquid strength.
